WILLIAM ALWYN Concerto for harp and string orchestra, "Lyra Angelica"

William Alwyn CBE, born William Alwyn Smith (7 November 1905 – 11 September 1985), was an English composer, conductor, and music teacher. Concerto for harp and string orchestra, called by its composer "Lyra Angelica" -- literally, Angel's Songs -- one of the loveliest works ever written for that ethereal combination. Inspired by the poems of English metaphysical poets, Alwyn's concerto for harp and string orchestra, Lyra Angelica, was popularized when the American figure skater Michelle Kwan performed to it at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
